Vegetarianism in Buddhism



-     


Life ia as dear to a mute creature as it is to a man. Just as one wants happiness and fears just as one wants to live and to die, so do other creatures. – Dalai Lama XIV

-       The eating of meat extinguishes the seed of great Compassion. – Buddha.

-       See all living beings as your father or mother, and love them as if you were their child. – Atisha.

-       Even if we cannot be completely nonviolent, by being vegetarian we are going in the direction of nonviolence. – Thich Nhat hanh

-       One who kill´own life will be shortened, one who harms will be injured even more. – Nagarjuna

-       If a person does not harm any living being… and does not kill or cause others to kill – that person is a true a spiritual practitioner. – Buddha

-       Being a vegetarian makes it easier for us to increase our loving kindness and compassion – Thich Thanh Tu

-       I do not see any reason why animals shuld be slaughterd to serve as human diet when there are so many substitutes. After all, man can live without meat. – Dalai Lama XIV

-       Whether you look at it from the general point of view or the specific point of view, it is very important not to eat meat. – Karmapa XVII

-       For fear of causing terror to living beings…let the Bodhisattva who is disciplining himself to attain Compassion refrain from eating flesh. – Buddha

-       If on the one hand, we chant the mantra and on the other hand, we eat the meat of another sentient being, then our words and actions do not tally with one another – Drubwang Rinpoche
